One of my special project for the Boeing company is to design content format for our next generation information system at the division level. Our team works hand in hand with the corporate level systems people. We are being our next cycle of pc upgrades now. Our standard issue is dell 450's w/ sdram. We still have at least 50,000 legacy pc's that still use EDO ram or early. We have about 80,000 current issue pc's in use that are 1 to 4 years old. The company doesn't like the fact that we have to begin replaceing our newer pc's because of capacity issue. The systems people I work with assure me that the new standard issue pc's specification currently being developed is rambus equiped. There are several main reasons why. The main one being to lengthen replacement cycles.
