RESEARCH ALERT - Warburg resumes E&P coverage

NEW YORK, April 12 (Reuters) - Warburg Dillon Read said Wednesday analyst Christopher Eades has resumed coverage of three U.S.-based, international exploration and production companies.

-- Apache Corp. APA was resumed with a strong buy rating and a target price of $63 and Eased said the company "is financially in an excellent position" to undertake a large acquisition. It now has operations in the U.S., Canada Australia, Egypt, Poland and China.

-- Burlington Resources Inc. BR was resumed with a buy rating and a target price of $46 per share. The company has a large production base in New Mexico's San Juan basin as well as operations in Canada, Algeria, the East Irish Sea, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Suriname.

-- EOG Resources EOG was resumed with a buy rating and a target price of $30 and "it would not come as a surprise to see EOG make acquisitions (particularly internationally)." It has operations now in the U.S., Canada and Trinidad.

-- On the New York Stock Exchange, shares of EOG were up 3/4 at 24-1/8, Burlington shares were up 1-1/2 at 37-1/2, and Apache was up 1-1/16 at 49-3/8.
