LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2000--
Companies Demonstrate Multichannel Digital Transport Stream Insertion Solution at NAB 2000
In support of the rapid deployment of digital cable service in
cable television systems, DiviCom(R) and SeaChange International, Inc. will provide a solution for inserting local advertisements into digital cable channels. DiviCom (Nasdaq:CUBE) is the world's leading provider of open solutions for digital television. SeaChange (Nasdaq:SEAC) is the leader in advertising insertion with Spot MPEG-2 digital insertion systems deployed in approximately 80 percent of the cable television industry.
Debuting in demonstration at this week's National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) exposition, the solution comprising DiviCom's TransRater(TM) TR400 and SeaChange's Spot System, enables insertion into any format of digital programming, including statistically multiplexed programs. By making any stream available for ad insertion, the companies empower cable operators to grow their business, to provide greater value to ad clients, and to recoup their investment in digital networks and the multibillion dollar cable advertising business.
The SeaChange and DiviCom solution introduces unprecedented flexibility to digital stream insertion. It gracefully manages dramatic changes in bit-rates of the various sizes of digital ad files in the typical ad schedule, allowing ads to be inserted into a wide range of bit streams without compromising image quality. Further, it allows seamless, frame accurate insertions both in and out of the ad file, regardless of the format of the incoming digital channel.
The solution also protects the cable operator's investment as it incorporates a new application programming interface (API) that accommodates the new splicing standards MPEG-2 streams developed by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and the Society of Motion Pictures Television Engineers (SMPTE).
"With Stream Insertion we're helping cable television operators expand the revenue stream for the local cable ad business and it's as exciting as the widespread arrival of automated multichannel ad insertion was," said James Kelso, vice president of advertising systems, SeaChange International. "For all our customers, a seamless upgrade of their existing Spot Systems and the introduction of a TransRater makes very desirable digital channels available to local advertising clients. This is one of the greatest advantages of our systems -- the customer's original investment in SeaChange goes a long way toward capturing future business opportunities."
"This solution allows providers to gain a return on the investment they have made in the digital network," said Tom Lookabaugh, President of DiviCom. "This technology partnership takes us one step closer to delivering targeted ads to well-defined groups of viewers within the local cable system, producing the strongest advertising impact available to cable television companies."
At NAB 2000, DiviCom and SeaChange will demonstrate the digital streams insertion solution in DiviCom's booth, No. S5539 and the SeaChange booth No. L1523.
