from 37 to 65 cents. The chip maker has benefited as intel has struggled to meet did emand
for chips. Analysts credit chairman jerry sanders with engineering product introductions,
improved manufacturing and overcoming production problems. Richard whitington of bank of
america securities says they are having a great year, making a product as good as intel's best.
The two companies have been em broid embroiled in a struggle for chips. In february it made
an 850 megahertz chip, to intel's 800. Then they announced a 1 gigahertz chip last month. Last
week, their discussions with dell computer heated up, centering on the possibility of selling
a.M.D. Processors to dell, which runs exclusively on intel chips. As for the stock, advanced
micro shares more than doubled this year. >> Right now a.M.D. Is down almost three ..... On
monday it hit its 52-week high. .....
