In the South we have certain individuals we refer to as True Believers. They can be politicians, clergymen, scholars, writers, social activists or whatever. The mark of True Believers is they instill Hope. And next to survival and procreation, Hope is the great motivator. It is not science. It does not come packaged with guarantees. But it is what drives and assuages the human spirit. Voltaire gives the investors on this thread Hope. You know it. I know it.
