From AKLM's 2Q bad news earnings report:

>>Results for the quarter were impacted by a slowdown in the rate of sales growth of hardware systems, the decline of the market for console software, and the Company's previous strategy emphasizing Nintendo 64 software. Data from NPD TRSTS, an independent industry research firm, reveal that video game publishers continue to sell more products, but at declining prices. During the first two months of 2000, despite a 5.4% increase in the number of console video games sold and the continued success of the Sega Dreamcast console, the industry suffered from an 8.2% decline in total software revenue versus the same period last year. Moreover, during this period, pricing pressure resulted in a 12.8% decline in the average selling price per unit of PlayStation(tm) titles and a 16.8% decline in the average selling price per unit of Nintendo© 64 titles, compared to the previous year. In addition, a decrease in sales of the Company's video game software and delays in the launch of new titles also impacted the quarter. <<
