Re: The Ayn Rand mention

James Fallows has an article in the Standard, where he mentions the Ayn Rand factor. Here's the relevant paragraph.

There is one other way in which IQ hubris might be at the root of Microsoft's current
gamble. A startling number of its employees are steeped in the works of Ayn Rand. I don't
know whether Bill Gates is, but his defiant pose has much in common with that of Dagny
Taggart or Howard Roark. These are the classic Rand heroes who know they are the able,
productive pillars of society - and who have nothing but contempt for the government
peewees who whimper to them about "fair play" and "social responsibility." In the end,
Rand's heroes decide to destroy their companies and deny an undeserving society the fruits
of their genius rather than make any compromise with regulators.
