Figures I'd grab the wrong one...hrrummph. But if he's as good as you say, I'd get to them all anyway. Stirling and Turtledove are both new names to me, I'll keep them in mind, thanks.

It's too bad Tom Wolfe does not focus on novels more. He seems to get distracted by journalism and other passing fancies. Bonfire of the Vanities and A Man in Full may be the only great novels to come out of the guy.

I'm fairly new to Cormac McCarthy and have only read his Border Trilogy, which is All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, and Cities on the Plain. I was positively blown away. If you went to Amazon and read some of those reviews, I guess you know why. Words like "elegiac" don't even begin to describe the prose. I have a hunch he wrote the dream sequence ending to the 3rd book before he wrote anything else. What a knock out read this was!
