$Mogul> Mr. Smarty ?????

Have you been watching Mister Rodgers today?

LOL!!!

NEW YORK, April 12 (Reuters) - Rambus Inc. (NasdaqNM:RMBS - news), which makes technology to speed up computer system performance, on Wednesday posted second fiscal quarter operating profits per share had risen 88 percent over a year ago, meeting Wall Street expectations.

The company also posted $171.1 million noncash charge due to employee compensation, and another $230,000 charge due to acquisition-related costs. Including these charges, net income fell to a loss of $166.4 million, or a loss of $6.98 per share, in the second quarter ended March 31, versus a profit of $2 million, or 8 cents, in the year-ago quarter.

Operating income was 4.9 million, or 15 cents per share, versus $1.6 million or 8 cents in the second quarter of 1999. Revenues for the quarter were $12.2 million versus $7.9 million in the year ago period.

The Wall Street consensus earnings estimate for the quarter was 14 cents per share, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial, which tracks analysts' forecasts of earnings data.

However, Rambus shares fell in after-hours trade on Instinet to 193, down from the close at 213-13/16. Earnings were reported after the close. In regular trade, the stock fell 32-3/16, placing it among the top Nasdaq loss leaders for the day.

``There was that enormous charge which was not expected,' said SG Cowen analyst Drew Peck. ``This stock is highly volatile, and the volatility has nothing to do with the earnings picture.'

The company's stock has ranged from a year high of 471 to a year low of 51-1/2.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based Rambus develops technology that speeds up computer memory chips so they can keep pace with microprocessors that have become ever faster. Rambus licenses its designs to most of the world's largest memory chip companies, which in turn pay royalties.

$mogul:
Current royalties of $3 M for RMBS's 2Q00 period is based on 1-2M RDRAM chips shipped in 4Q99 calendar period. Predictions for entire 2000 calender year are 100 M RDRAM chips shipped. Royalites due RMBS on the order of $ 50-75M are not unrealistic or about $2 - $3 a share.
