Great find. I find the put/call ratio very useful. Also check out figures from October 1998 - really the only semi-comparable period.

John T. , make that put/call # 0.57

CBOE Market Stats for April 12, 2000

Put/Call Ratio: .57

VIX OPENING VALUE: 29.41
VIX HIGH VALUE : 32.44
VIX LOW VALUE : 29.02
VIX CLOSING VALUE: 31.88

sometimes it takes a little while for the final #s to come in...

I'ts weird, Decision Point shows the CBOE put /call ratio @ .70 for the oct. 99 bottom...

Also, I noticed that the OEX put/call ratio was 1.37 at decision point charting site.

At the Oct.' 98 bottom and Oct.'99 bottom the OEX P/C ratio was apx 1.60. It spiked down to 2.10 right before the new year...very bearish hedging I guess before Y2k.

I guess the best buy signals are when everything comes together at the best #s possible in a historical context...

regardless, we're getting there slowly but surely. I think this slow bloodletting is really the best thing for the market here...really washes out the poison as it were.

What is OEX?

OEX is the symbol for options on the S&P 100 Index. This is a capitalization-weighted index, covering a broad range of industries. Each OEX index option contract represents 100 times the current value of the Index. For example, when the Index is 500, the dollar value of the Index will equal $50,000 (100--the multiplier--times 500).

Who created the S&P 100 (ticker symbol OEX)?

The OEX was created by the Chicago Board Options Exchange and originally represented the top 100 stocks that traded on the CBOE in 1983. However, Standard & Poor's now manages the S&P 100 and is responsible for the addition and deletion of securities.

Thanks for the great info.
