With all due respect I do not agree with you that the underlying emotions are the same as 3 or 4 centuries ago. Sure we continue to have our greed, fears and passions, but we also have learned and evolved into species that know very well how to logically control them.

Applying that to the stock market, sure the bottom line is fear will sell and greed will buy. But at a time when there should be absolutely no fear of recession or un-prosperity (if there is such a word!), the market will come to control its fears (and perhaps not its greed, but definitely its fears).

In pure financlail context Fear comes from weakness and greed from strength! I for the life of me can not possibly see anything but strength in a pure financial context for the Corporate US.
