Ivan,

For the last couple months the online quote pages have taken to supplying bid/ask numbers that are way out of whack with reality. Things tighten back up about 15 or 20 minutes before the next open.
In other words, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

Ivan, I was just reading up on Instanet (after hours) trading. If I understand it correctly, it's more of a buyer/seller relationship without an MM, so whatever your bid is if it's the best, that's what hits the screen.

I sometimes put in after hours sell orders quite a bit higher than the closing price (fishing) and see my exact order show up as the ask.

Also instanet is not well connected so you might not get to see all bids, only the ones in your system. (Part of the disclaimer you have to agree to to trade after hours)
