jhg, RE: ALL INDEX FUNDS WILL HAVE TO BUY BIG TIME. I REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED TO AOL AND TO YHOO WHEN ADDED TO THE S&P. UP A MINIMUM OF 25% WHEN THE DAY OF ADDITION TO THE LIST OCCURS.

That happened to AOL and YHOO when they were added to the S&P 500, not the 100. The amount of funds indexed to the 100 is so minimal it doesn't register on the radar screen.

It is good news on the margin, but being added to the S&P 100 really isn't all that significant. In fact, given that EMC will now be part of the OEX, a bigger effect will be to increase the volatility on expiration, because options trading is where the S&P 100 has the most impact, not index funds. Given this specialist's ability to handle volatility, I dread the trading at the next triple witching.

In Germany right now, EMC is trading at 131.70 euros, or $125.77.
