Joe,

Well the one thing this cash should do is help improve their credit rating which SHOULD result in more favorable interest rates.

I don't know about the terms of the LT debt, but I bet AMD can refinance, or rollover the debt to new at a lot more favorable terms.

Joe,

Its been a while since I read the terms but the Dresden fab was subsidized favorably by the Saxony state gov't....they want Dresden to become a hi tech center. If I remember correctly, the loan terms are fairly light. And with AMD's successes there is considerable room for expansion which I am sure the Saxony gov't again will be happy to finesse in favor of AMD. Many things can be said about Sanders but not being clever is not one of them.

BTW did you note in the CC when he talked about the new fab in Japan, I can't remember the way he said it, but the indication was that there would be not any out of pocket money paid by AMD. I suspect there were several reasons why AMD signed long term flash contracts with CSCO, Alcatel et al; one of which is that they went to their Japanese partners and said we have the contracts, you build the fab. Again it smells to me like another Sander's coup.
