I think that the margin call pressure is exaggerated. I think with the ability to access one's account during the day, people are able to assure that the margin call never comes. In other words, traders are self-regulating their accounts in real time and therefore we don't see the lag that we saw not too long ago. Besides, I suspect that, even if people are playing on the long side right now, margin usage is likely at a minimum.
