You raise an interesting point. Many people try and play the dips and the peaks. VERY few people generate additional return by doing this. To successfully do it, you must first cover the cost of the trades, etc. Without having your own guy on the floor, you can almost be certain you will miss the absolute peaks and valleys, leaving modest returns at best.

I've seen many people micromanage their portfolio into oblivion, while others have bought with a 2-3 month minimum horizon and done very well.
