The mighty Q up $7.

If you remember last week, it was Q and
CSCO that led us out of the spiral down.
Q was the first of my 8 to go green.

LGIC demonstrates IMT-2000 handset at Americas Telecom 2000
LG Information and Communications (LGIC) has demonstrated its IMT-2000 handset at Americas Telecom 2000 being held in Rio de Janeiro on April 10-15.

The telecom event, organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), is the largest of its kind in the region with over 400 worldwide telecom vendors taking part.

Among the items LGIC showed during the exhibit are the STREX-1900 system, which supports high-speed data transmission using CDMA (code division multiple access) technology, a wireless local loop terminal and CDMA handsets with dual LCD (liquid crystal display) panels.

Latin America currently makes up 30 percent of the communications market and the mobile telecommunications sector. Host country Brazil is expected to grow at a very rapid pace, reaching over 2.5 million subscribers by 2003. That would rank the country as the fifth largest mobile telecom market in the world.

LGIC, which already exports CDMA handsets to Brazil, plans to expand into Chile and Venezuela this year.
