You may be correct. Chart JDSU seems to be firming, which increases the chances for a squeeze.

sam, Rallies may get shorted (and the margined sold) until shorts start getting burned. Then they will cover. Not happening yet. But probably will soon. Surprisingly, the best thing that happened was the weakness during the last week...as a ton of shorts entered positions. And, as we know, most "nice" runs are short induced. IMHO, now is not the time to short.

That is how I see it. As we rally, it gets sold or shorted. As soon as the real selling starts to decline, the shorts are going to get hurt. When I was shorting stocks last year, I fell into the same trap. I kept shorting any bounce but soon discovered that sometimes the stocks just don't go down. That can result in some nice short covering rallies on top of the buying. It when short sellers try to short a market already 20% down, that they are asking for trouble.
I personally would not short a 10% decline given my experience from last year. I would rather sit on the sidelines even though I could have made gains from 10% down to 20% down.
Shorters sell the rallies get confident in their strategy. Once that happens, the market usually turns against you is my experience. We might be at that stage right about now.

In this type of situation, when the tide turns, it can be really big. Too risky for shorting.

IMHO.
