(NYSE: VRI - news) today reported first-quarter 2000 net income of $77.4 million ($0.78 per diluted share), the company's third consecutive quarterly record and a 307 percent increase from the $19.0 million ($0.19 per diluted share) in income reported during the first quarter of 1999. The increase was primarily attributable to improved commodity prices.
