NO ONE person or panel of people should have the ability to administer it according to whatever the climate is politically.

I agree. That is the very reason IMO, that Bush did not give CFT a 30 day stay, as it could have only been perceived as a political move.

<<That's fine, but it doesn't address my point. >>

No Betty it addressed one of your points about Gov. Bush not stopping the execution of the lady who met Jesus while in prison. He didn't have the power.

It didn't address the other point about executing innocent people. It happens and it shouldn't. Way too many legal walls built in both for and against capital punishment. It's become a game. Illinois has stopped, for the time being, capital punishment as 12 men had their convictions over turned on new evidence.... 3 by evidence that high schoolers found.

Re the guy the Pope saved, that's a guy who needed to be gone from the Earth. Dumb luck and pandering.

I agree with some of what you say. But I don't believe being under the influence of drugs is a "mitigating" circumstance. That's a choice the person is responsible for. The real hard part is that it is hard to show compassion for murderers. Death row occupants are rarely the type for which I can feel much sympathy. JLA
