HB- There was an interesting article about 'Buy & Hold' by Jane Bryant Quinn in yesterday's paper.

I wish I could find it on the net- but I do recall that she wrote that of the top 24 tech stocks in 1984, only INTC has succeeded. The rest have gone done the crapper.

But I'm in it for the Looonnng term. LOL

Sure glad I decided the long term was over on those Biotech stocks I sold a couple months ago. <g>

You are absolutely right, HB. As a "buy and holder," I have to admit that "buy and hold" is for the birds. I have seen too many gains trickle away forever...

But it is not a question of expecting a 'free lunch.' All those folks, like James Glassman at the Washington Post, were beating into the heads of novices like myself that "buying and holding" was the responsible, adult thing to do. It was important to show "fortitude," which meant not abandoning the ship when it was clearly sinking. A stiff upper lip would lead to a fat wallet. Now that I am no longer a novice, having undergone baptism by fire more times than I care to count, I know that is a lot of hooey. But still...
