My guess is foreign holders of mutual funds redeeming sensing very bad market conditions in the USA or it might be the hedge fund liquidations that could be going on right now. That is the only logical answer I have for the drop late day. Forced selling.

Considering that the big cap Nasdaq did not drop significantly today, we could be at the end of this phase but i have said that before too.

It is going to take a big up day to reverse this trend by either a key market strategist (Abby) or just plain drying up of sellers. In either case, we are going to get reallocation notices coming out of the major brokerages shortly.

A strong up day could result in positive sentiment translating into momentum upward. Otherwise, I would expect the NYSE to start getting hit soon as well.

Remember SOROS? Don't forget what he did to the upside when he bought in 1999. He can do that on the way down, too.
