Steven, We have so many prolonged deliberations by juries around here, that it seems to me that they are quite serious about the responsibility placed upon them. For instance, there were 4 teenage girls, from well-to-do families, who went on an armed robbery spree in the Houston area and, two were tried and given 7 years each. A third one has been tried in Dallas, found guilty but, the jury deliberated for 5 hours on the penalty and had to be sequestered for the night because of lengthy considerations of their responsibility. What I don't like about this particular deal, is that the fourth girl cooperated with the prosecution, testified against the others, and got off with probation, even though she was just a guilty as the rest of them. This is the fault of the prosecutor's office and not any jury. ~H~
