Your claim that I am not new to SI is not true. I am willing to enter into a legally binding contract with you, under which, if you can establish that my statement is false, or even if you can establish that I was even aware of SI or Anthony prior to the publication of the recent Wired article about him, I will pay you $10,000. If you can't, you pay me $10,000. Since you have made this statement I must assume that you already have the evidence which would support your claim. But to give you every opportunity to establish that you have not libeled me, I will agree in the contract to provide you with any information which you feel you require to establish your claim, and to authorize any other disclosure of information on the part of others which you consider would establish the truthfulness of your statement. If you are not interested in entering into such an agreement I think a retraction is called for.

I don't believe that I spoke to the issue of Anthony's motivation. I have no knowledge of what his financial, business, or personal interest in this particular matter actually is. Nor do I think it is relevant. He has made the claim, and other's like it directly, on the record, and further provided the rationale and sources of information he considered in making his claim. Regardless of what his "true" motivation might in doing might be, he has in fact helped prevent people from loosing a significant amount of money. Furthermore, he clearly discloses the fact that he may be making personal investments based upon his beliefs. In doing what he does he places himself in significant personal and financial jeopardy. His ability to derive the maximum financial benefit from the information he gathers is not dependent on his sharing of that information, particularly publicly and for attribution. If you don't think that this requires character I would suggest that you try it.
