Good advice Clappy, What a day. Had to host some State Government folks from down state but handed them off in time to check the close. Was not too happy to find it down 92 but what the hell, it has to come back some time. Drove home and picked up my lady and drove 40 miles to "Little Switzerland" where we had a drink, a bottle of good wine and a great meal. Damn, it is good to be alive. Drove home and caught up on the posts (big chore). I was a little disappointed. When a man makes a prediction in front of friends, on something as variable as the stock market, and the prediction doesn't pan out exactly right - friends never raise the subject again. Not if they are Ladies and/or Gentlemen. I am relatively new to the porch, but I found here kindness and awareness of reality. Voltaire is correct in his basic theory. I know he is. He may not know every detail of what is going on, but he understands reality. I learned about reality from my brother in law, who is a cattleman in Georgia. He not only raises cattle, he is in the cattle business and works a sale barn every day of the week. I used to go with him when we visited and it was an eye opener. He would take cattle from the local folks who paid him a commission to sell them and he would buy cattle for the locals on a commission basis. Of course he bought and sold for himself. He could look at a cow and tell you the age, weight (within five pounds), and anything wrong with the animal. He could even tell you if the cow had a good disposition or not. Anyway, after the sale was over, the insiders would gather in the back office of the sale barn and the owner would break out the sipping whiskey - no mixers for these guys - and they would start recapping the day. How a couple of them had cleaned up on the Gold Kist buyer, or how someone else make the Wendy's hamburger buyer pay top dollar for a dying cull. They even gouged each other when they got the chance, just for the fun of it. A newcomer trying to buy cows to get started was sure to get skinned. Now if the market can be manipulated in a country sale barn, do you really think there isn't market manipulation at every level of our vast stock exchange system? Bet your bippy there is. They may not break too many of the laws that would send them to jail, but the moral laws are long gone. For what it is worth, I want Voltaire to know that I appreciate his frankness and honesty and good advice. Sting If it isn't life threatening, it isn't worth fretting about.
