At any rate, the process you describe seems very different from the process I imagine when I hear the argument that morality must be taught. Children are not "taught" those simple forms of morality any more than children are taught to speak. You don't teach your daughter to talk, you listen, and talk back, and she picks it up by imitating you and being reinforced. Similarly, with moral/social behavior, children imitate the behavior of their family, and it is reinforced. And I think we are in agreement that this process long predates religion.
