RE:"Funny how the YUK reported that one vendor said the 815 chipset will be a "niche product." I thought the thing was going to replace the 440BX as the mainstream chipset, given its support of PC133 and external AGP-4x. That way, Intel can finally get rid of those problematic SDRAM versions of 820."

Intels chipset roadmap is an enigma.

Ten,

I do know their general architecture, but I don't know anything about schedules or volumes or even performance.

I'm confused. What did you mean by this post?

what would you say if the performance of the 815 chipset isn't as good as Tom's overclocked 440BX

Message 13392937

Was that just a rhetorical question?

Tenchusatsu,

I thought the thing was going to replace the 440BX as the mainstream chipset

It may still be if Intel decides to really get into the motherboard business again, and sell millions of motherboards with 815, while denying the chip to Taiwanese motherboard companies. Maybe this is Intel's revenge for the fact that they did not fall in love with 810, 820 and 840.
