JDN, SUNW astonished? I wouldn't quite go that far. Excellent quarter, I would say, maybe outstanding. With Sun's valuation, they are expected to produce like that, though. Coming off a 100:1 P/E you know, and not going to 60 trailing like the guy on SUNW thread almost got away with.

Did they talk about Ultrasparc III delays? When Intel announced a Merced delay in 1998, the stock got killed for a while. Sun seems to be impervious to any stock hits due to product delays.

With Sun's current products they are five time worse than the leader in price/performance, expressed in terms of price per transactions per minute, below URL. I know Sun primarily sells solutions and RAS, but that price/perf. is getting very uncompetitive, no matter how great their marketing is. Also, their RAS is really no better than other machines which are equipped with appropriate features like ECC, hot swappable hardware, clusters, etc.

I know I've harped on Sun in the past on the Intel thread, to your annoyance. I guess I did it again, but this is, after all, the EMC thread.

I'm not sure that earnings are going to drive things up much at this time. EMC is one of the strongest stocks that I have held. It's a great company but how log will these stocks hold up to these earnings multiples? No one knows.

I mentioned here before that I use a market timer. (as did a good EMC (SI) contributor last June who got laughed off )
I got out and am in cash for now but will buy back EMC.

My guy called this hurrcain and no he is not a bear, anything but!
Did you know that every year sine 1860 that ends in a "O" except for one has been a bear --- that every panic sell ie. Apr. 4 -- since the 60's has been followed by 4 to 6 weeks of volitile prices?

My guy called for a low the end of May last Feb.( and no I haven't been out of the market since then as he called plenty of ups in the meantime. There will be lots of buying opps. between now and the end of May, EMC included and I'll be there but not for now.

Good luck
