I am in a slightly better mood - the rheumatologist I used to see will see me next Friday. And I just remembered I am seeing another non-HMO doctor Monday for a follow-up on the insulin resistance, and I may be able to talk him into giving me the injections. It's amazing how much an injection of cortisone into the head of the triceps makes my wrists feel.

I think your point about the HMO practising medicine without a license is well-taken.

All HMO's suck. Anyone who's been in the military (operator of the world's oldest and largest HMO), could tell you that. Over time, bennies go down and red tape goes up. Getting a decent doc or access to state-of-the art diagnostics is a crap shoot and if you get a really bad one, you can't sue. Imagine getting brain surgery in a CA DMV environment - lots of scary similarities.

And, the budget ALWAYS drives the train. I was laid up in one of the "better" military hospitals for awhile as a lad.
Happened to coincide with end of their FY. They shut down the air and fed us orange jello three times a day -- I am not making this up. My IV drip probably had water v. drugs .....I wouldn't put it past 'em.
