HG <and the fact that they are eventually always wrong....> LOL -- now bears are stupid bad guys and bulls are the good guys? I see no shame in pointing out that you can get ripped off in the market if you are not careful. And we have definitely been through a period where people were not being very careful. When your mother told you to look both ways before you cross the street, did you think she was secretly hoping you would be hit by a car? "Forward looking" people can be bulls or bears. Forward looking bears have been saying "watch out, you just might lose money if you lose all sense of valuation."

I think with all their bravado the bears on this thread would be crowing about all their profits from shorting this "obvious bear market". They're not. Few must have any. No wonder they're grouchy.

I was just looking at my accounts to take some losses on my recent longs to off-set my gains from selling on 1/3. I don't have enough unrealized losses at least yet. Wierd. :)

happy - My thoughts, too. To be a full time bear, you must have a permanent dark view of life, I think.

I have never understood why most bears mostly always lack character and civility....

Hey, I got a suggestion for everyone. Let's do away with the bear/bull generalizations on this thread. I'm a bear, I admit it. But if the market falls further, I may become a bull (a cautious one). As a bear I've been attacked numerous times - not necessarily on this thread (although I have been the target of numerous comments about my "short-sighted" outlook).

In truth, I believe no generalization can be made about the character of a bull or bear - the only distinction between the two is the opinion on where the market is going. So, let's try to limit generalizations - and let's facilitate discussion on where the market is going.

(Happy - don't interpret my post as an attack - I'm trying to politely disagree with you here)

-Eric

Oh that's just great. Now we're just misanthropes.

I have never understood why most bears mostly always lack character and civility....

It may be the vindictive streak which makes them bearish in the first place - the fact that they don't really believe in evolution and change....and the fact that they are eventually always wrong....

History does not note Cassandra's attitude after the Trojans laughed at her. I can assure you, she was bitter and unhappy, and she did not rejoice when her city was destroyed. In our case, the "Greeks bearing gifts" are the Henry Blodgetts, the Mary Meekers, the Jeff Bezoses of the world. At the end of the day, they are still going to be very rich. And you know what? The companies they work for have been net sellers of stock since day one. They sold their crap to you. Get angry at them, not us.

Eventually always wrong--- My dear, eventually we are always dead. But how shall we live our lives in the meanwhile? I assure you, I've spent most of my investing life purchasing stocks, not shorting them. Evolution is good, but evolution also implies extinction for those who cannot change or forsee the oncoming ice-age.

Good Luck in your investments.
