EMC Calls $212.5M Data Genl 6% Sub Notes Due 2004

HOPKINGTON, Mass. -- EMC Corp. (EMC) plans to redeem on May 18 its outstanding 6%
convertible subordinated notes due 2004 assumed in connection with its acquisition of Data
General Corp. in October 1999.

In a press release Friday, EMC said the principal amount of the notes is currently $212.47 million.

The company will pay the redemption price of 103.429% per note for notes not converted before
the close of business May 17.

The notes, issued by Data General in May 1997, are convertible into EMC common shares at any
time before the close of business May 17, at a conversion price of $83.8208 a share.
