Thanks for the response. Sure, if you're running a low-traffice site, this is the way to go. That is, if you're not concerned about contending for resources with other sites hosted on the same server.

And, of course, from the perspective of the hosting service there's the benefit of a low licence fee. <8)

But it seems to me that Microsoft is a good choice for hosting a high-volume site on your own server, particularly if (God forbid) you want to integrate that site with other Microsoft-based services.

And then if your running a really huge site and you have a big budget, you have the choice of using Sun.
