Speaking from experience, the motives for obtaining depositions such as these have to do more with harassment than with obtaining information. It is all part of what is known as discovery. Here the main evidence comes from the patent documents or from recognized independent experts, not from Eli, whose views are known, as is the record of when he applied for patents. As I say, the real motive is to be as nasty as possible in an effort to get a settlement.
