Peapod attracts white knight
April 14, 2000
by Adam Feuerstein

A white knight has come to the rescue of battered online grocer Peapod Inc.

European grocery giant Royal Ahold is buying a 51 percent stake in Peapod (PPOD) for $73 million, the companies announced today.

Peapod will continue to operate as a stand-alone company. Ahold will supply Peapod with goods and services, and will allow its U.S. grocery stores to be used as fulfillment centers.
