Somehow I find that hard to believe. So there is nothing they can mess up by - for instance - deleting the "wrong" files through xwindows?

Come on, Andy, if your using the OS, that doesn't mean you're given access to actual files! ;-) You would only be allowed to browse the web (once you replaced your Winmodem with another modem), and then only able to enjoy multimedia if you fell into the fortunate % (small I'd guess) that have the hardware supported by Linux.

If I found that Corel's Linux were easier to use than Windows (and let me make the crazy request that it also be at least as easy to install), I'd be a buyer of their stock because they would have worked a relative miracle in a short period of time.

FWIW, I have installed RedHat 6, gotten it to work with one of my two network cards, have a winmodem so am hosed there, it doesn't (or didn't then) support my sound card, and mounting my CDROM drive seemed like a big PIA. I'm not a Linux expert, but IMO the GUI candy coating needs to improve for at least a few more years before we'll see any kind of home user numbers.

Randy

They can only delete their own files, not system files, programs etc. That's a key principle in a multi-user system, where one user may not be able to disturb another user.

Windows 2000 is approaching the same principle, but for compatibility reasons they have to make a lot of places writable, so they still have some way to go before they can truly call it multiuser.
