I have no idea what will happen (no predictions here) but I think a recession IS possible if the market doesn't recover soon and Greenspan still raises rates again in May. Why? A ton of "average" Americans have been damaged or slaughtered in the last few weeks. I have really heard some amazing stories. People will stop spending--even in small ways--its psychology, but its true. The damage will become most obvious in about six months to a year.

How do we go into a recession? I believe the Fed has caused most if not all recessions in recent times by their mismanagement of monetary policy.

A lot of people give AG credit for the expansion of the economy over his term. I don't!!!! He just happened to be in the right place at the right time from a Fed history viewpoint. I give much more credit to Ronald Reagan and the coming of the tech age. AG is just another very bright economist, that's all. He has been there long enough and I believe Clinton made a mistake of retaining him for another LONG 4 years. 12 years is enough of AG. I prefer new blood and new ideas every now and then. Change is good. But that is water under the bridge, isn't it.
