johnd -- suggest you look up the words 'profit' lost opportunity' 'LONG term losses' and look at the value of Berkshire now vs even 2 months ago,, I care where the issues I own trade. Day to day fluctuations mean little. This down turn could last days, weeks, months or years. I suspect msft will recover some with it and when they settle with the doj.. until then I suspect it will range and sag,, no sense buying this after the initial pop as it is going to be sometime before it gets a decent valuation,,,

You buy quality stocks like MSFT at heavy discounts to historical valuations (like today) or in comparison to the rest of the markets (like MSFT today) and tuck it away.

Exactly... Tier 1 dominant stocks like DELL, MSFT, and CSCO should be bought on any significant pull back. Your odds of success are high. Every once in a while one of these "monsters" will pull back and give the opportunity... doesn't happen often, but when it does you need to be ready. Believe it or not, CSCO had a confidence problem a few years back... same with DELL a couple of months ago.

>>books by Phil Fisher, Bob Graham or by Warren Buffet <<

Good advice. But I think its Warren Buffett and maybe Ben Graham, although Bob Graham wrote a heck of a good book on Baltimore:

The Insiders' Guide to Baltimore (Insiders' Guide to Baltimore, 1st Ed)
by Bob Graham, Lynda Case Lambert
