how much info do you think is off our radar screen and on somebody elses?

GST - there are options/leverage for the big guys that's not fully account for here? Btw, I was thinking that "shorting shares" are pure margin positions; and therefore a material part of the margin debt? Am I way off?

GST,

I know you did not ask me but a lot. All short positions are held in the account in type 3. This means at the close of market, the total short position for any firm may easily be calculated. We may obtain it once per month and it is a bit dated:-(

Well, someone at each of our brokerages (Schwab, Etrade, MS, ML, whatever) must be keeping tabs on aggregate cash/equity ratios, etc. in customers' accounts, and comparing those numbers over time, and eventually concluding that all the weak hands have folded and now's the time to buy (or the reverse, a month ago). Man, would I like to get hold of such info.... ;<

Right about this weekend, the average joe with 18 months of investing experience is now thinking, "hey, I've got it, I'll go short the dotcoms!"

Dotcoms then rally starting late next week!

Do not be short this week, my friend.
