This is exactly my point. To fall back on Steven's example,human beings would likely construct a ladder when the need presented itself. I contend that the idea of a ladder is out there whether we discover, invent, construct a ladder or not.

Steven says that we create the idea of a ladder and the idea exists only as a human creation. But wait, lets say tribe on an Island on the Eastern hemisphere needed a ladder for the first time 2000 years ago, and so constructed one. Did they then create an idea that had no existence previously. Another group living in the Western hemisphere needed one 3000 years ago and so they created one then. The idea then existed prior to its discovery on the Eastern Hemisphere. That is why we use the term discovery in this sense. It can be discovered because it has an existence apart from the discoverer.
