manfredhasler,

re P/E

the discrepancy is 2Q99

most sites report earnings as +.53
if you remove the gain from the sale of Vantis it becomes -1.10

But, as I said, most sites only post the +.53 number.

How do you figure out whether the P/E quotes in SI are timely and correct? Do I have to research each company individually?

Manfred,

I do with mine....why rely on a second source?

The PE you have may also be correct since AMD has a net profit after disposing Vantis in Q3 of 99. For me, I would only consider profits from operation, not sales of asset and investment like Intel. I believe (double standard) Paul had highlighted this many times.
