If I recall correctly, back in October 1987, gold may have shined for about three days but that was about it.

Agree! If I could have taken my investing philosophy and put it in a jar...I would have done a lot better.
Like not putting balls to wall and really taking advantage of the mania on the way up... because of my concerns about lofty valuations.
The good news?...caught a lot of those lofty valuations on the short side this month.
