Hi tg - while I agree with you about NT bright [in ways than than one <g>] prospect, I am inclined to have a kinder view of her 2 main rivals [which can be a misnomer!] You are absolutely right that LU has structural problems that requires radical changes, but I think Mr McGinn is alright. Having a new CEO obviously inject a lot of vigor by being the hatchet [wo]man with little repercussion. IBM is a good case for it. However, the old DEC was a case study that that too can be a stop gap approach, which could make things worse. So, this is not a lightly considered matter, especially with LU size. My guess is that LU has too many layers of management. Also, my guess is the NJ headquarter of channel and protocol simply has not had a good strategy how to absorb the acquired cos with a ready-to-ramble rank and file. A friend of my friend, who is a leftover of ASND [originally CSCC] has finally thrown in the towel and quitted LU. Another friend of mine, a long time LUer, has taken a package and is now part of the Netcore [a TLAB acquisition] gang. In contrast, the way Mr Roth's treatment of Mr House's departure is stately. While I know less about NT internals, it appears that she has allowed the BAY and the CFLY people to continue their things without putting a pencil neck on top of them. Granted that this is a conjecture, since I am sure we would hear something like that in this thread by now :). Technology gap or not, CSCO probably excels in being the borg <g>. Granted that it may have spawned a lot of orphan technologies, but 54+ acquisitions are quite a feat. The fact that it has such a underleveraged balance sheet really help it to stay atop, even if it stumbles now and then Ultimately, I see these three are likely to do well in some sectors, but not total domination in the whole telecom eqpmt arena, which is way too big anyway. LU has the most problems, but other than fixing its corporate structural problems, it can still do well by taking aim at the Europeans or finishing off COMS and CS! If I were to reenter LU again, one reason would be its Bell Labs patents! best, Bosco
