? What to do at this point? I didn't get out and have lost over half my portfolio..very stupid, IMO. Of course many others have done this too. But....is the market going to continue to decline? Why wouldn't it? Freeus

I track the VIX as a sentiment measurement together with a couple of others. The VIX made a high of 41.53 on Friday -- quite extreme; however, in the October 98 sell-off, if memory serves me right we actually saw it cross over 50. I believe that during the 87 crash it got into the triple digits -- though I was not keeping track of it at the time. Listening to the talking heads over the weekend, the prevailing view seemed to be that we had more downside before a firm bottom is made -- but then most of these very same people were not exactly advising caution when we were making new highs, so I don't place much weight on their opinions.
