Didn't John Akers at IBM do something like that in the early 90's and almost sink his company? Spending a lot of money doesn't necessarily mean your business plan is valid.

someone at INTC think that they are on the right track, they are investing some $7 B on Fabs upgrade and possibly a new fab

Intel CPU's are DRAM type independent. The DRAM strategy is supported via the chipset and hub products. The 815 chipset will be SDRAM based. Most 820 systems use SDRAM, via the hub.

I wonder what (if anything) they are doing with DDR?
