Great timing on your exit from your DIM Q 2001's. I just hope you left the revenues in cash and resisted putting them into play.

As far as your elderly Mother-in-law's account, it might be less expensive to cover her losses and tell her you closed her positions before the crash. It would resolve your irrational but understandable guilt, and keep the old gal from stroking out.
