Yogi;
<<Matsushita-Kotobuki has production facilities for hdds in Singapore, Ireland, and Japan. Is that currently correct and would you happen to have any idea of the percentage of units produced for Quantum at each facility (or point me to a source where this might be gleaned)?>>

Actually MKE's big facility is in Batam, an hour's ferry ride away from S'Pore. But in essence your are correct. However breaking out productionn between the facilities is very very tough unless for some reason they want to tell you. They are very very close to the vest with such info and even take delivery of capital equipment at a central location to forward on their own. I do not know where to go to get that info frankly.

I think the largest supplier of their tape heads is Harold Datanetics and Lafe which are both in Hong Kong and China.
Harold is in Shen Zhen and Lafe is in Panyu.

Maxtor is 100% production in S'Pore with their newest plant open and producing. The scuttled their older plan to open up in Dalien,China as the Hyundai ownership began to unwind as that was primarily a deal between the Chrmn of Hyundai and the well connected Mayor of Dalien.

The relationship between HDD and MKE has had ups and downs over the years but is good for now I think, no whisper of a problem. Management is very impressive on both sides IMO but I always questioned the model though it appears to be very successful and it could be my own prejudices that prompted me to do so. I wish I could get a handle on how much MKE is making in the way of MR heads and what their plans are for GMR. But as I said, they are very stealthy.
Best,
Stitch
