Yes, cost averaging is usually done such as the same time each month, or however intervals occur. --- Existentially, I think an investor is predisposed to impose their ongoing 'analysis' or expert hand of active management. I think 'mathematically' one merely increases the chance of screwing things up with each 'trade'. It's a paradox. You don't need to look much farther than how well "professional" fund managers do against the S&P index. --- One should test an equity candidate with "if I left the planet for 5 years, would I be comfortable with this stock, having no way sell it, etc..?". After that, there's nothing more for you to do. You might as well be on a respirator. Bummer, huh? :) -JCJ

The few folks foolish enough to mortgage their houses to play the stock market were probably also foolish enough to put the proceeds into high flying dot-coms and biotechs, not "boring" infrastructure stocks like SUNW.

People keep talking about these hypothetical highly margined people, but most people I encounter don't even follow the market, let alone push it to the limit.

Edit: However, that said, I did have trouble finding a Barron's today; most newsstands were sold out. I don't know whether that means people are looking for things to buy or to sell, but there is definitely some interest.

JMHO.
