This thread used to feature lively discussions of the Asian markets. Is anyone interested in the fact that South Korea is down 11%? Or how dependent that market is on the US?

Get a life zhou...

For one thing, the chinese calling Castro "Dr." is incredibly bizarre. Castro received a law degree from the University of Havana. Calling him "Dr." is like calling Clinton "Dr.". And we know the only "doctoring" Clinton ever did probably was in the area of gynecology. Likewise, the only doctoring Castro is probably expert involves the use of car batteries and people's nipples.

As for those 600 protesters, maybe you should have been here to see how most of those protesters DEMANDED to be arrested after they were unable to provoke the police into being drawn into outright conflict with them.

For you information, the DC police disrupted the lives of THOUSANDS of innocent commuters and DC residents by cordoning off the entire area between 14th and 23rd St, as well as the between Constitution Ave, and L street (constition Ave being considered "A" st) so that the protesters could hold their rally without being forced to mingle with commuter traffic.

Workers within that cordoned off area were forced to find other places to park their vehicles (do you know how much of a premium parking is in DC?), and show identification badges proving they worked within the protest zone. SO IN FACT, THE PROTESTERS HAD MORE RIGHTS THAN THOSE WHO WORKED WITHIN THAT AREA AND HAD TO SHOW PERSONAL ID TO ENTER.

No protesters had to show ID to get in there!!!

And there are 100+ plus protesters still in DC jails because they simply refuse to provide their names. It was reported today that one girl took off all of her clothing in an attempt to avoid going in front of the judge for an arraignment hearing. She was dressed by jail staff and brought before the judge.

Now contrast that to China where the government WOULD NEVER GRANT PERMISSION FOR SUCH A PROTEST (unless it fit their politcal agenda like the protests against the accidental bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade).

Furthermore, the DC government was forced to spend $5 million to prepare for this protest and pay for police overtime, none of which was reimbursed by the protesters themselves. The DC government is attempting to get the Federal government to pick up the tab now.

Don't even try your propaganda crap about how America oppresses the "unwashed masses". These people came to demand the VERY SAME THING that the IMF was meeing about, forgiving debt to undeveloped countries (the proceeds of which were long ago ripped off by corrupt politicians in these nations).

Now here's an example of Chinese consideration for human rights just recently reported:

CHINA FORCES 200,000 FISHERMEN TO UNDERGO APPENDECTOMIES

China insisted 200,000 fishermen have their appendix removed before taking a job on a Taiwanese fishing boat.

Chinese government employment agencies then took commissions of more than half the seamen's salaries -- and even took a rake-off on the appendectomies, KNIGHT RIDDER is reporting on Friday.

The case of the missing appendixes began in December when Zeng Quanfu, a tall, thin man with a small scar on his abdomen, told Huang Qi, China's first human-rights Web site operator, a remarkable story.

A government employment agency, Zeng said, had insisted he have his appendix removed before taking a job on a Taiwanese fishing boat. The same thing happened to maybe 200,000 Chinese fishermen, though the risk of the appendectomies vastly outweighed the benefits, U.S. medical experts say.

Drudge reported that Knight-Ridder is developing this story further.. Should be interesting to see the explanation for such a surgery to be required. Smells of blatant governmental graft.
