Here are two interesting questions, from RB (which didn't get answered over there, as best I could tell): How certain is Wave's inclusion in the TCPA solution, and how is it that AMD is going to make money simply from including E2 in their motherboard reference design? Both are critically important questions, I believe. It might be worth following the message chain back--here's the URL: ragingbull.com By: attcav Reply To: 182091 by 2bStealthy Saturday, 15 Apr 2000 at 10:37 PM EDT Post # of 182532 2bStealthy, Re: clout Yup, I agree with that. If HP and IBM decide they want something, there's not a lot that anyone can do to stop them. They very well might choose a Wave solution based on the outcome of the TCPA specs. They might even demand that E2 be on motherboards that Intel designs and manufactures because they undoubtedly use some of these motherboards in their PC designs. Intel might just choose to accept the Wave implementation too. But Intel might *also* choose to go it on their own. We just don't know. Of course past alliances between IBM/HP and Wave seem to make them a good bet, but there's never been anything public like this with Intel. Don't get me wrong, your thoughts on this matter might be dead on. I'm just more skeptical about it than you. One thing about the TCPA spec/white paper or whatever they generate is that it will likely NOT specify an IMPLEMENTATION. It's probably more of a specification for an architecture or requirements of fuctionality. If Wave is really on the ball, they'll be making sure that E2 meets the TCPA requirements to a T. But there's nothing that says that other companies can't implement their own versions. On a slightly different topic: Do you or anyone else know how AMD will come by direct financial gain with their Wave relationship? The only thing of substance that I could see from the annoucement is that they will incorporate Wave technology into their motherboard reference designs. I don't see how this *directly* affects their bottom line. Now if doing so enables them to ultimately sell more K6 or Athlon based systems because the underlying motherboards have Wave technology then I can see strategic value. In the same regard, I can see the PR value of AMD coming out and tooting their horn about taking a lead role with security etc. etc. Just wondering if anyone knows whether actual $$$ is changing hands based on the alliance. attcav
