Mark, most likely you are not in the correct mindset to hear this, but here goes anyway. :-)

There is no such thing as a loss in the market (tongue in cheek) just knowledge gained at a price. With that additional knowledge you will be a better trader and that will lead to more profits in the future. Take that to the bank.

The first time I lost everything it was (just <gg>) my life savings & and retirement accounts as well as my wife's full business line of credit. The second time it was more serious, I was on full margin, plus all the cash I owned or could borrow, including a full mortgage against all my real estate, including my personal residence. Basically I was done, or to put it another way I was "F". However, I found a financial backer and with the creative use of some credit cards (that's right credit cards at 19% interest) started over..........again. It took me several years just to clean up the mess, but when I did, two things happened, first I'll never again put myself in that situation and second it had forced me to become a better trader. It forced me to learn lessons that I had avoided learning in the past.

So from my perspective,

For the first 3 months of 2000, I was up 65K,(that 65K was already taken to the bank)looking to purchase a new home at the end of the year, at least have a down payment for it...In the last 3 weeks I have lost 65K...So basically the kid is broke or even.

First, you were very lucky to make 65K in three months, thats not you say you weren't good, just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Second, you got off easy. To acquire that type of an education for a zero net cost is cheap (free), some of us have paid dearly for that same education. There is not doubt in my mind that the "educational experience" will pay you dividends far into the future far exceeding the 65K "cost of tuition." I realize this may be close to salt on the wound to you right now, but in days to come you will see it and feel differently about the experience.

but my downfall remains my emotional makeup

Your 75% of the way there if you know what the problem is. Invest in a solution.

XXX OOO <vbg>

P.S. As a result of my experiences, I had net profits 10 of the last 11 years, with the average annual profit breaking 6 figures. I'd say I gotten a return on my "tuition dues." Keep the faith, pal.

Mark,

Very sorry to hear that. You will do fine I know. The primary reason I am moving to CyberX completely this week is the ease of putting in stops. EVERY loss I had this year began as a profit, showing no problem picking and entering trades. What has gotten me is as soon as I am in I cannot eliminate the projections of where the trade should go from my head.. where the trade should go, "likely" will happen, but not without Wall Street's opinion. Therefore, once in the stock.. THERE SHOULD BE ONLY ONE, AND I REPEAT ONE GOAL... to sell or put in as stop as soon as is safe to do so. If you pick stocks well (you do) and you religeously do this, you cannot imagine how far you will go... My LWIN trade last month.. in at 100.. it ran to 110 the next day.. a $4000 (four thousand) profit.. exited at 97.. although a volatile stock.. WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS I SMOKING??? People work and sweat over month to make that..

BUT!!.. as soon as the markets are flying and everything is rosy we forget.. The discipline to be consistent in capital preservation regardless of markets.. I think this is the only skill that makes ALL the difference.

You know the ideal system is?? (Cybercorp. you listening??).. As soon as you place a trade a stop is automatically placed at a user defined % loss.. of course the feature should allow user to disable it..

Rashid
